Good Apples - Virtual Farmer's Market

http://www.goodapples.org/

I was at Pressley Ridge this morning for an appointment with Joshua when I saw a flier for a program called "Good Apples". The flier said that with their program, I could order produce online and have it delivered fresh from the Strip to Pressley Ridge (which is 2 minutes from my house).

I investigated the website and it really seems like a neat idea. Launched in 2005, Good Apples now has 20,000 customers from Pittsburgh to Harrisburg. They have everything from fruit to veggies to cheeses and gourmet foods, which they sort and package at their warehouse in the Strip. You order online and pick it up either at their distribution center in the Strip or at a corporate location (although it seems that from their website that you already have to have one in mind. I e-mailed to ask if there was a list to choose from.)

The prices look comparable to grocery store produce prices, but judging by their ample customer feedback and the receptionist I talked to at Pressley Ridge, the quality of the produce is wonderful. They do have weekly specials and it looks like they have incentives and special deals for frequent shoppers. Their site boasts 99 cent shipping (free shipping for orders over $25). They also offer a number of organic options.

I think I may try it out in the next couple of weeks to see how it works.

  1. I e-mailed Good Apples and asked about locations. This is the reply from their Admin department:

"The only two locations that the public has access to is Downtown YMCA and Baierl Family YMCA. You can also do pickup in the strip."

I asked if I could pick up @ Pressley Ridge b/c my son attends there and I have the proper location code to enter from there. She said as long as I have access to the pick-up location, that would be fine.

For all of you, I recommend that you either 1)pick-up at one of the public locations (Baierl YMCA would be great for Noth Hillers) or 2)research a company you're affiliated with to see if they're a drop-off location. The corporate section has a .pdf that lists a number of them.
